August 2025 Visa Bulletin

By: Nadine Chen

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) has released the August 2025 Visa Bulletin, which outlines the availability of immigrant visas for family-sponsored and employment-based categories according to applicants’ priority date.

The Visa Bulletin has two different charts per visa preference category

Final Action Dates

  • This determines when a visa number is available for issuance based on an applicant’s priority date. If a category shows a specific date (e.g., "01JAN25"), only applicants with a priority date before that date are eligible; if it shows "C" (Current): Visas are available to all applicants regardless of priority date; and if it shows "U" (Unauthorized): Visas are unavailable for issuance.

Dates for Filing

  • This indicates when applicants can submit documentation, and only those with a priority date earlier than the listed date are eligible. If the category is marked “C” (Current), applicants may file immediately.

In coordination with DOS, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reviews visa availability each month to determine which chart applicants should use to file an adjustment of status application. If USCIS determines that there are enough immigrant visas available to accommodate additional filings, applicants may use the Dates for Filing chart. Otherwise, they must use the Final Action Dates chart. USCIS publishes the applicable chart each month under the When to File page on its website.

For August 2025, USCIS has confirmed that all family-sponsored applicants must use the Dates for Filing chart, while all employment-based applicants must use the Final Action Dates chart.

  • Family-Sponsored Filings Applicants:  All applicants must use the “Dates for Filing” chart in the Department of State Visa Bulletin for August 2025.
  • Employment-Based Preference Filings: All applicants must use the “Final Action Dates” chart in the Department of State Visa Bulletin for August 2025.
