Diya A. Mathews is a partner based out of Chugh LLP’s New York and New Jersey offices. Her law practice is focused on business immigration law and corporate compliance. She has extensive experience in non-immigrant as well as immigrant matters, including entrepreneur and investment visas, and immigration advice for startups. She advises on a full suite of visa types including H-1B, L-1, TN, E-2, E-3, EB-5, family visas, green card and citizenship applications.
Ms. Mathews is frequently called on to advise on cases involving the Child Status Protection Act (CSPA), an area of immigration law which holds special interest for her. She also has experience with Direct and Regional Center EB-5 applications. She assists corporations with internal immigration audits, and routinely advises corporate clients on the immigration consequences of mergers and acquisitions.
As an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Ms. Mathews has held committee leadership positions with the New Jersey chapter since 2013; she’s the current Co-Chair for both USCIS and Diversity & Inclusion Committees for AILA’s New Jersey chapter. She’s a Board member of The Indus Entrepreneurs TiE - New Jersey Chapter and also chairs their Membership Committee. TIE is a global non-profit that fosters entrepreneurship in the South Asian community. She’s also a Regional Representative for the South Asian Bar Association of New Jersey.
Ms. Mathews was featured on Lawyers of Color’s 2023 inaugural list of Wonderful Women that recognizes dynamic women attorneys who show promise in their careers and demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing diversity in the legal profession. She was recognized on the “2024 Innovate 100” list for helping drive innovation in the State of New Jersey. She’s a frequent presenter on business immigration topics.
Ms. Mathews graduated from the University of Michigan Law School, as a Michigan Grotius Scholar. She also holds a B.A. B.L. law degree from the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR), one of India’s top law schools, where she was a gold medalist. Besides being admitted to practice in New York, she is a qualified Indian lawyer. She’s fluent in South Asian languages, Hindi and Malayalam.
