USCIS Filing Fees to Increase

Practice Areas

By: Carmen Lopez

On October 24, 2016, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced a final rule in the Federal Register, adjusting the fees required for most immigration applications and petitions.  These new fees will take effect on December 23, 2016.  Any applications received by the USCIS with a wrong fee on or after December 23, 2016, will be rejected.

This is a first fee increase since November, 2010 which will serve to recover the full cost of services provided by the USCIS.  These costs are associated with fraud detection and national security, customer service and case processing, and providing services without charge to refugee and asylum applicants and other customers eligible for fee waivers or exemptions.
