The Department of State (DOS) has temporarily expanded the capacity of consular officers to waive in person interviews for certain nonimmigrant visa applications to reduce COVID-19-related risk.
Prior to the new rule, only nonimmigrant applicants whose visa expired within 24 months could forgo the interview. Until December 31, 2021, certain foreign nationals whose visas expire within 48 months will be eligible to skip the interview when applying for a nonimmigrant visa in the same classification.
Travelers should visit the website of their nearest US embassy or consulate for more details on eligibility and instructions to apply for a nonimmigrant visa without an interview. Please contact your trusted Chugh, LLP attorney for case-specific questions.
