US GOVERNMENT PASSES NEW STOPGAP SPENDING MEASURE TO FUND THE GOVERNMENT THROUGH MARCH 11

By: Gurshaan Chattha

The United States Congress has passed a temporary spending measure to fund the US government through March 11, 2022. The bill will prevent a government shutdown as fiscal year (FY) 2022 budget negotiations continue. This is the third temporary budget Congress has passed to keep the government open during budget negotiations.

The stopgap measure ensures there will be no government shutdown and no interruption of federal operations. The measure allows Congress to continue to debate the FY 2022 budget until March 11, 2022. At that time the measure will expire, and Congress will need to pass the FY 2022 budget or pass another temporary measure to continue funding government operations. Otherwise, a government shutdown would occur.

IMMIGRATION PROGRAM EXTENSIONS

The bill will extend E-Verify and the Conrad 30 program for foreign medical graduates working in underserved communities through March 11, 2022. These programs were previously set to expire on September 30, 2021. However, both programs continue to remain operational through stopgap spending measures.
