USCIS Completes Second Random Selection For H-1B Cap Registrations

By: Jagan Tamirisa and Gladys Gervacio

USCIS announced a second selection of H-1B cap registrations through a random selection process to reach the FY 2024 numerical allocations. USCIS previously conducted a random selection in March 2023 in order to meet their numerical allocations for FY 2024. This selection included beneficiaries applying through the advanced degree exemption. Registrants selected for FY 2024 in the first random selection were required to file their H-1B cap petitions between April 1, 2023, and June 30, 2023. Registrants selected in the second round will be expected to file their petitions between August 2, 2023, and October 31, 2023.

After reviewing the number of H-1B cap petitions received during the initial filing period, USCIS has determined that a second random selection is necessary to meet the numeric allocation for FY 2024.

Now that the selection process is complete, employers’ myUSCIS accounts will reflect an update with the newly selected registrants and will include a selection notice informing them of the details of the filing period and specific service center to file the petitions.
