United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has extended its policy of remote Form I-9 verification through December 31, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Employers can now verify Form I-9 employment eligibility documents for new employees remotely until December 31, 2020. After that date, employers must review I-9 documentation in their employees’ physical presence.
This policy only applies to employers that are operating remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, the policy was set to expire on November 19, 2020, or within three days of the national emergency’s end, whichever came sooner.
