US Embassy Cancels Visa Appointments in India

By: Sharmila Karingula and Deepika Singh

President Biden’s April 30, 2021 presidential proclamation suspends most travel to the US from India to limit the spread of COVID-19. Based on this policy, the United States Embassy and Consulates in India have cancelled all in-person and interview waiver visa and Visa Application Center (VAC) appointments. Appointments are cancelled until further notice at the New Delhi US Embassy and Consulates in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai.

Emergency services for US citizens will continue. However, all regularly scheduled appointments have been cancelled. Due to limited availability, the consulate will not be rescheduling any appointments. Individuals can still make new appointments and file applications through the online portal.
