USCIS Extends Evidence of Status of Certain Receipt Notices

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will extend the time certain receipt notices can be presented as evidence of immigration status. Beginning on September 4, 2021, petitioners filing Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence or Form I-829, Petition by Investor to Remove Conditions on Permanent Resident Status can use receipt notices for 24 months, an increase from the previous 18-month extension. The change is part of USCIS’s efforts to combat the effects of processing delays.

USCIS sends receipt notices to conditional permanent residents who properly file Form I-751 or Form I-829. Applicants can show these receipt notices along with Form I-551 Permanent Resident Card (green card) as evidence of continued status while their case pends with USCIS for up to two years past their green card’s expiration date.

If a conditional permanent resident’s case is still pending and they properly filed Form I-750 or Form I-829 before September 4, 2021, USCIS will issue new receipt notices based on eligibility.

Conditional permanent residents who plan to stay outside the United States for a year or more must apply for a reentry permit (Form I-131, Application for Travel Document)
