An Immigrant Raising the Next Generation of Americans: Ritu Chokshi

Ritu Chokshi is an attorney based in our Indiana office.

Ritu’s favorite part of being an immigration attorney is when she is consulting with new clients. She enjoys unpacking their history, and goals, and then walking them through what might be the best possible options for them.

As a twice migrant, first to Canada in 2002 and then to the U.S. in 2009, Ritu feels that she understands what it takes to make a new country your home. In Canada, she was focused on advocating for policies that make it easier for integration of newcomers that enter Canada every year. In the U.S., as an H4 spouse, when she was unable to work, Ritu pivoted to law school and found her calling. Ritu sees herself as an immigrant raising the next generation of Americans, and she wants to make sure that as a country, we never forget that we are who we are because of contributions of migrants that have made this place home.

Ritu’s favorite part of the client interaction is when she can show them the parts of the law that solve their immigration puzzle and get them to their next steps, it’s the step that goes from confusion to becoming trusted partners in their immigration journey. Sending them their approval notice or finally getting USCIS to act the way she wants is fun too.
